Media and AI literacy is everyone’s mission

To address the democratic challenges related to AI, it is necessary to mobilize all stakeholders: journalists, as well as civil society and cultural mediators. The statement comes from Divina Frau-Meigs, the principal investigator of the Algowatch project, and was made at the European Festival of Journalism and Media Literacy, held in Florence, Italy, from March 14th to 16th.
Divina Frau-Meigs took part in a debate on ‘AI and journalism: navigating the intersection of economics, ethics, policy and democracy, during which she also said that “Media and Information Literacy (MIL), crucially, should be integrated into the very design of informational AI”.
The event was organised by the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom /European University Institute), European Federation of Journalists, European Broadcast Union, EAVI-Media Literacy for Citizenship, Journalisme et Citoyenneté, Lie Detectors and Savoir Devenir.
